The Academy Awards

I think the internet has somewhat ruined my Oscars viewing pleasure. Most of my predictions in the major categories were correct. I think it has a lot to do with reading all the different columns on other award shows and critics picks and whatnot. I was surprised by Sean Penn’s win for Best Actor, although I shouldn’t have been. I was positive it was going to be given to Mickey Rourke. Can’t win ’em all.

Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

People will say that it was given to him because he passed away (although I’ve noticed a lot of people who I know to have said this haven’t seen the movie) but I feel he truly deserves it. So congratulations Heath.

Top 10 Movies of 2008 (That I saw in 2008)

Overall, I was fairly disappointed with the movies of 2008. Maybe it’s because there was a certain film that was released in July that dominated everything else in my mind. Even the critics reviews were fairly lackluster for everything though. Hopefully 2009 will be better.

That being said, I decided to make a list of my top ten favorite movies from 2008 that I saw in 2008. My official top ten list will be posted later after I see the rest of the movies that I would like to see. (I still haven’t seen two of the five Best Picture nominees).

10. Tropic Thunder

9. Valkyrie

8. In Bruges

7. Burn After Reading

6. Iron Man

5. Milk

4. Slumdog Millionaire

3. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

2. WALL-E

1. The Dark Knight
